Belgravia

Bristling with embassies and consulates, it remains one of the most desirable areas to live. With gates into Hyde Park to the north, visitors can expect to find a unique combination of the serene and the grandiose.

London Apartment short let Kinnerton Street

This apartment is in a wonderful location, being in the heart of Belgravia. It is set in a gated courtyard, so feels very secure and quiet. The local pub and a little mini-market are just a couple of minutes walk away.

The apartment is on the ground floor, and the front door opens straight into the large, comfortable living room. There are two sofas, and a large glass dining table seating four. Sliding patio doors lead out to a small enclosed light-well, approximately 8 ' square.

The kitchen is small, but very well-equipped with washer-dryer, dishwasher, microwave, etc.

Off the living room is the hallway which has excellent cupboard and hanging space.

The bedroom is comfortable with a queen-size (5') bed, chest of drawers, and lights over the bed.

The bathroom is a good size with shower over bath.

Things a Yank will be glad to know about Kinnerton Yard

1. While the kitchen is small, it is a serious kitchen. The cabinetry and stove and oven etc is by Gaggenau, and very high quality. There are all the tools you need for just about any cooking you might reasonably want to do.

2. In the bathroom there is a "shaver" outlet that can be switched to 120v and works fine with US plugs. So anything that works in the US will plug in there and be happy. Razors, electric toothbrushes, hair dryers, etc.

3. There is a wireless internet connection next door which you can easily access from inside your flat (may have to go sit in the bedroom with your laptop for a good connection). There is a security key required to log on. Internet access makes getting information about London easy--and facilitates making reservations, etc.

4. The "washer/dryer" is a single integrated (Bosch) unit not very common in the US. In one machine your clothes are washed and then dried. It works fine but takes a long time and doesn't take very large loads.

5. There is also an electric "dryer" rack that you can pull out of the closet and drape your damp clothes (or towels) over and it will dry them out.

6. In the bathroom there are pipes at each end of the tub that serve to provide radiant heat for the room but are also to dry the towels in an otherwise humid environment.

7. The dishwasher (also Bosch) does a great job. The trick is closing the soap door which requires that you press it down (it seems like it should just click shut when you slide it closed, but it doesn't).

8. The garbage disposal also operates different from (better than) in the US: Instead of flipping a switch on the wall to turn it on, you twist into place a drain plug--the water can be running while that is happening.

9. The pub to head for is the "Kevin Morin" formerly known as the Nags Head. It has lots of character and excellent bitter beer. The other pub, the Wilton Arms, has a TV and satellite dish and carries major football (soccer) games.

10. Forget the mini-market unless its Sunday night after 5:00 or before 8:30 am. Otherwise go to the Waitrose down on Motcomb.

11. The hot water is VERY hot. Be careful.
